Surfing in Pais Vasco
|
||||
Pais Vasco (or The Basque Country) borders with Cantabria and Burgos province to the west, the Bay of Biscay to the north, France and Navarre to the east and La Rioja (Ebro river) to the south.
The region has its own highly distinctive language, Euskera.
The territory has three distinct areas: Guipuzcoa, Biscay and Alava. These regions are defined by the two parallel ranges of the Basque mountains. The main range of mountains forms the water divide of the Atlantic and Mediterranean basins. The highest point of the range is in the Aitzkorri massif (1551 m).
Pais Vasco is home to the world class wave at Mundaka which plays host to the ASP world tour every year (when the wave is there and working that is! - see the surf spot for full details)
