Information about Thailand Thailand is a popular tourist location and is considered to be the world's 50th largest country in terms of total area. It has a surface area of approximately 513,000 sq km (198,000 sq mi), and the world's 20th largest country in terms of population. Thailand has approximately 63 million people, of which 80% are Thais.

The country is bordered to the north by Laos and Burma, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and Burma.

The main religion is Buddism.
