Board Sock Questions.

When I got my single board Dakine bag, the fella recommended I get a board sock, too for some extra protection.

1) How much 'extra protection' will a board sock serve when flying?

2) My board is 6'7", do I get a 6'6" because it stretches or do I get a 7'6" or somewhere in between?

I really doubt a board sock would do too much more protection, considering...well, they're pretty much socks. Although I have never used it.

When flying, are you gonna stash it in the coat closet or are you gonna check it? If you're checking it, then I would STRONGLY suggest a flight case. Expensive, but not as expensive as buying a new board everytime you fly. Now I know you've seen the videos of the luggage guys chucking luggage 30 feet across the pavement

Board sox dont add protection. They are used to keep the board clean. I use a board sock on my new board to keep my new board bag clean. Board sox are easier to clean than boardbags.

Air Tran is pretty cheap.

I think If I wrap with some good industrial foam or something in the bag that might work out for me. I dunno, just gotta think about It I guess.

Man been posted elswhere before, but i use pipe lagging for the rails, available any hardware store, bit of extrea buuble wrap on the nose, pack it out with your towels, wettie, anything.
Just get a cheap bag a few inches bigger than your board and pad it out.

well not really, a board bag is hard to clean but what I mean is it always fills up with sand, wax and saltwater. So everytime your board goes in (clean or not) it will become really slippery and dirty..
I just got annoyed with it really so with my new board thought id just get a board sock to wreck and keep the bag in better condition

i currently own a bic 7'9" natural surf 2 and i am looking to purchase a board sock to stop my car seats getting covered in wax.
Do i get a 7'6" sock or an 8' sock?

Cheers for the helpful advice. i shall probably go for that rhino board sock. i've seen other brands that have specific sizes rather than a range of sizes so i guess they may be less stretchy?

I just got a surfboard cover called a surfboard scrunchie and I love it because it isn't a pain in the behind to put on. I'm happy I wasn't only one who hates putting a board sock lol. Its open on one side which is fine with me because that's what makes it easy!!
