exactely, when i drop in on my longboard on big waves or shore dumps the speed, the sketchyness of it all the fact that i can see the sand below me :lol:

also nothing against shortboarders or anything but, being that far out in the lineup means I'm on my feet before shortboarders start paddling for the wave

been trying to learn on my friends 9.6, that was run over by a french guy in a land rover. Well , he didnt just run over it, he parked on it , while they had the argument. to say its twisted is an under statement. Still hasnt put me off long boarding.

I think I had the scariest longboarding sessions ever over a beach break!
It was a clean 8ft+ day on this weird beach point break. It basically breaks over rocks for a few meters then reforms over abuot 1ft of water! It's scary! I was on a mates 9'2 tri fin longboard and we were pulling into (what it felt like) the deepest shorebreak barrels!

Next surf season I've gotta get some pics!

Sorry if that made no sense, but just brought memories back thinking about longboarding in decent surf!

Agreed, with proper skill levels a Longboarder could ride anything a Shortboarder could ride.

As a 30 year old grom with 1 year of intensive study under my belt my biggest issue with longboards in big surf is paddling out. I'm a fairly big chap and I'm completely exhausted by the time I get out there. Any tips on getting my air craft carrier through the wave?

Yep, its a little far from the sea! About as far as you can get. Still getting to the waves has become a labour of love! What I'd really like to do is get a group of people together to share the cost of getting to them!

Not a problem at all my friend. When is your next trip planned? We have one to wales on the 13th and 14th of Jan and I think we'll be in Boscombe on New Year's day. I shall have the right hump if it is as flat as it was on Saturday!

Newgale or Whitesands beach is the plan. Nearly drowned last time I was at Porthcawl and really love the Gower. Where abouts do you surf?

Wales in Jan sounds cool, not surfed around the Gower for a long, long time. Hope you get some for New Year's day man.

should longboarders expand and longboard in big surf instead of surfing 1-3ft mellow surf?
