Why do u shortboard ??

Yeah sure there are a few tricks on a longboard that you can't do with shortboards, but I feel that I have much more control over my shortboard than my mal, and where I surf, you really need to dodge all the noobs that don't really know where they're going...

ill give you this example ok! ive seen dogs, chickens and even a lizard ride on longboards, even walking up and down on the board! this is not surfing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its for people who cant ride shortboards! having said that i have no problems with people riding mals coz at least their having a go.

Okay, this is how it is. I'm NOT bashing shortboaring (I ride a shortboard)...

Shortboarding is more adrenaline-centered, sharp turns, fast acceleration, and just quick muscle movements.

Yet, after 8 years of shortboarding I'm going to delve into the lifestyle of a longboarder. It won't be a step forwards, and it won't be a step backwards. It'll just be different.

At this point in the game I want to ride the nose. Is it to get into a little more "mellow" surfing? Is it to do nostalgic surfing? I guess a mixture of both. Whereas shortboarding is a blood-pumping, fast-action, ripping kind of surfing, longboarding is conversely mellow, artistic, and a spiritual type.

One is not better then the other. They just suit different styles of people. Why do I want to switch to longboarding? I have no idea...it's just an urge

Exactly...I'm doing both now (recently started on the longboard). Both are great fun for there own reasons.

I currently ride a 6"10 funboard because its a nice all around board. I'd love to get a longboard but just wouldn't be able to afford it, Longboards are double the price of a shortboard. I hope to do both some day though.

How i the ride on your 6'10 funboard?... it's pretty stable and easy to maneuvure all at the same time?... can you carve with it and turn easily?

Ye its really good, and FUN as the name suggests. Its so much lighter than the poput i started on, plus its much faster and easier to turn. Carving and turning aint too hard on it. I love it, perfect size for me. Paddling aint too bad, but it could be easier. Catching waves on it is fairly easy and duck diving is a lot easier.

Simple, shortboards are more exciting. Longboarding is for grandpas. Longboards are like Cadillacs while shortboards are like ferraris.

Actually a 6'10 funboard isn't uncommon. the range is between 6'8 - 7'4

i prefer having speed and moving around more, pumping and hope to be able to do airs some day.
Longboarding is more relaxed and less manuverable.

Anyway, as for long or short boards, I'm just starting out so my skills aren't up to shortboarding tricks just yet, but even on my 7"8 board I can do the odd turn and still get a wave nice and early. I guess it all depends on the type of waves you get at your local, and the type of experience you want. I reckon a bigger board needs the same amount of strength, cos it's so much more work getting out to the line up, where as it takes more concentration and balance to ride a short board.
