Best way to keep board from flying out of pickup truck bed?

I don’t know exactly the length of my truck’s bed, but if I angle my 9’0” from one corner to another it only sticks out maybe 10 inches or so. Anyway, today I had the fins sticking over the back -- which I guess is not a good idea as more of the weight is in the back of the board? – and it went sliding out of my truck onto the road as I took a turn. Luckily I can’t see any damage besides a few cosmetic scratches.

Anyway, am I correct that the fins should be inside the truck, and not hanging over the edge. It seems a lot more stable this way. I will be using a couple of bungee cords to give some downward pressure, but just want to make sure I’m orienting the board in the correct direction.

I always strap my boards down.

I place a pad over the tailgate (I use pipe insulation) and two bunge cords. I use two cord in case one breaks. I have seen that happen over time. I always have my fin hanging strait out pointing to the sky.

I use a FCS tailgate pad. Works great. Not only will it keep your board from launching out of your truck, it will also keep it from sliding around. I always put my board in nose first with the fins up.

WooD has it down. I have the same system for my truck. It works great and cost a little over $20.00. Well worth it. It takes about 1 minute to put it on the truck and about 20 seconds to secure your board to it. I searched the web for a place you can get one and came up with this. I hope it is okay that I post this link here. Call around to your surf shops, they may have one.

I bought a stationwagon in the end, you can slide your board inside and still fill the back up with crap, leave the family at home coz there's no room!! and sleep in the back too when you get locked out of home

I was going to be a smart A and say put lots and lots of weight on top of it. Nah, I won't do that...
