Alright folks,

quick question. I've my eye on this board, it's nice and ok for my level of surfing.

The seller has told me it's got a heavy glass job, what does this mean and what difference does it make?

It means the top clear layer is thick. This means it'll be heavier but tougher than the same board with light glassing.

So unless you're expert already, its probably a good thing.

Again, if you're an expert it'll make a noticeable difference.

To mere mortals, not a huge difference. Some people like a bit of weight in their boards, some people dont. Bit of a preference thing. So if you dont know what you like, its unlikely to make a huge difference.

Personally, I think a heavy glass job is for the best when you're learning.

It's a fatboy flyer 7' 6" x 21x 2.5.

No problem with an extra bit of glass on a 7'6

DBB has got it, more or less.

Heavier for it's volume than an identical "standard" board.

So it'll take more punishment, but be heavier to carry.

Cut through chop easier, but won't float as well.

Drop down the face more solidly, but harder to paddle.

I thought a heavy glass job wood mean the weight, and number of layers of cloth. Last week while talking to my shaper about my soon to be new board, I told him I wanted a heavy glass job, and he said he wood do two layers of 6 oz, on the deck, and one layer of 6 oz on the bottom. I was thinking the clear coat was just the resin.
