Repair expectations for peeling tuflite board

So, long story short, I was at the beach the other day and rented a 9’ tuflite board that had big patches of the tuflite outer shell missing….like 1-2 open hand sized spots in two areas and a few more bits here and there. Was apparently watertight and still light, very light. I had a great surf with it and was thinking about buying off the guy and repairing it. Is this feasible is the question, feasible without adding too much weight and lasting long enough to make the effort worthwhile. Anything else to consider? Repair cost is cheap here so that’s not an issue; they probably would do it all for 40 USD or less. Thanks!

Which Surftech Tuflite model and what color ?

Are the missing patches on deck, rails or bottom ?

Its 9’ and probably 10 years old at least. Missing patches on the bottom. Rails and deck were intact.

Just found the model; it kooks like not tuflite but a similar sandwich type shell construction.

Colors were yellow and white in the same pictured design.

10 year old Walden ? Then yes it is NOT a Surftech tuflite. Most likely a Boardworks, with their terrible paint jobs. My Boardworks Ben Aipa big boy sting has the same patches falling off. You probably don't need to go to a surfboard repair shop. Better to go to a car body and paint shop to get those areas filled in and painted over.

Im not worried about aesthetics; only the durability. Are you concerned with water absorption with your Aipa or is it true what Ive heard before that you could bore a home in this kind of board and it would remain watertight.

I actually peeled off the loose bits and sanded down the edges of the lost patches then spray painted over it. Still looks like a few millimeter deep crater, but the fiberglass layer is intact and not taking in water.

NO, you cannot drill a hole in a Boardworks without it sucking in water.

One thing to be cautious about was their use of "bandit" imitation Future Fins boxes. The back pins would break off. Also some of their center boxes and side boxes leaked from being improperly installed.

That said, I used a Boardworks Walden for a few years. Loved the way it rides from both the nose and tail.

Thanks WKK! I really liked the way it sirfed as well. If i get it Ill review those trouble spots.
