Curious if you guys look over your board after each surf, to check for dings or damage? Kinda like Mason Ho does in his videos.. but he beats the hell out of his boards. So I wasn't sure if that's the norm.

I'm curious because I hadn't noticed damage on a couple of my boards, until I was getting in my the car recently. I might need to make that more of a set routine after each surf..

I almost always rinse my board if the spot have water supply. I also put my board in the sock each time so I'll usually see if it's been damaged.

I check my board if there is obvious contact with something or if I see water dripping. Sometimes water dripping when I am taking the board home from the beach is the first time I know it's been damaged. I guess should check it more often but what a lot of time that might take me and I am busy enough as it is.

Yeah that's a good point about water dripping off the board afterwards. That's how I noticed the leak on my longboard when I was putting it on the rack.

But I probably should've noticed the other ding sooner. It was almost double overhead and my leash ripped right into the tail of my shortboard. I think I know the wave that it happened on.. but I got distracted when the next set landed on my head So I never noticed that one until I was on my way home.

Maybe overhead sessions should be treated kinda similar to hitting the board against something on a smaller day. I guess there's a much higher chance that something breaks in either of those situations.

Yeah the board bag is something I should really start doing. That's a good point about noticing any damage while putting the board inside. Hadn't really thought about it that way.. would be easy to make that part of the routine.

Dings for me generally happen when it's small. With the wave breaking much closer to the beach in shallow water, there's a much greater chance of it hitting the bottom.

Snaps, creases and leash breaks are more likely in big waves, but I can't remember ever getting a ding.

I have never had a snap or a crease or a leash caused damage to my surfboard but I surf custom made boards

I've heard that about injuries too.. most times they happen when its waist to chest high, because people try tricks they normally wouldn't have in larger surf. But I just havent seen that myself.. with injuries or repairs. But I see what youre saying though.. maybe there's just different things to keep an eye out for, depending on the conditions.
