Show Me Your Longboard

Postby SoCalNative » Fri Aug 10, 2018 1:48 pm

I love to look at longboards. I check out the new arrivals at the local surf shops every chance I get. I thought it would be fun to see what everyone else is riding. Please post a pic, past or present of your favorite longboard, or your whole quiver. Tell us why it is such a great board. Even the well used boards that show much it has been used and enjoyed.

Donald Takayama 9'4" Jeff Hakman Model Tuff Lite Epoxy. One longboard you can almost take out on any day especially if you don't know what kind of surf to expect. Great all around board even down to a beginner's board in my humble opinion. What I like about this board is basically the over-all rocker in the board. Closer to a 'glider' with very little 'kick' in the tail, almost straight if the pics show this. The underside of the tail has a small light edge trailing up about 1/4 length of the board, probably why the board handles so nice. Not a sharp edge either. The nose has modest rocker but not too much, just enough. I also like its ability to catch a wave with little effort. In the above pictures, I hope to demonstrate this.

I love it! I really do. You just can't post one pic of a Takayama either. I'd love to see more especially one of the over-all rocker. First thing that came to mind at first glance was, this board looks incredibly fast. Then I examined the tri-fin setup. Nice~ I can see why you prefer the tri-fin, you probably get some nice turns with the Carver large outside fin setup. If you have the time, maybe you could post a few more pics. I've always liked to see the rocker of the board compared to the deck. If you look to the right of this page, you'll see an Ad that states longboards >Shop Now. They show a pic of a longboard with blue rails, but its a simple pic of the rocker and the deck. Also, I love the color, but some of us would like to know what do you like about it? Does it turn sharp? Is it a fast board?

The fin set up is “ Twin-Stabi”, not actually a thruster.

Here’s a photo of the deck with a pineapple OAM pad. Sorry, no side view photo of the rocker.

The “ Beach Break “ has a lot of rocker, so it fits into turns well. And the Twin-Stabi set up lets it slide butt a little bit to tighten the turn up even more when called upon.
Speed wise a rounded pin / pin tail might be “faster”, but I prefer a squash / baby squash in the dumpy beach break we have here in Japan, to stay controlled in the pocket.

Here are two of mine....Jimmy Lewis both, 9’2” and a 10’4”. Purple board was painted by me with 8 cans of purple spray paint (LOL, hard to believe right!). Anyway, not big on aesthetics.....both surf great.

Both my boards have a good amount of rocker....works well in waves here. Both are epoxy sandwich construction....very similar to surf tech.

Nice board. It doesn't appear to be too small for you but it does need some wax. Not sure what your level of surfing is but it may you are paddling too far back on the board which causes the nose to come out of the water and makes it so you have to push a lot of water as you paddle which slows you down. try inching forward a bit and see if it helps.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

So when you paddle how far out of the water is the nose of the board? The usual recommendation for a beginner is 3 feet longer than you and it appears to be that at least.

For most boards there should be only 1 inch of the nose out of the water when you paddle. With lots of rocker the boards are usually more forgiving to where you lay down to paddle but I bet the middle is pretty flat. So how big of a board have you been using? How big is that board?

I'm not fancy like you guys, but I like my relatively cheap Torq 8'6" longboard since it is a lot better than my previous (and first) surfboard.
No need to post pictures, they all look the same :)

So do you pearl when you paddle or when you popup?

Same here! Nothing beats a Torq. It's the only board that I can recover easily from a nosedive. It is just so forgiving!

You win! I'm jealous. Have fun. 8) I'd post a pic of my board, but I'm afraid a gang of SUP riders who read this forum will recognize it and I'll get jumped in the parking lot.

Here's my day to day go too...9'6" x 23" 1/8 x 3" 1/4" Pig by Sean Wilde. Really flat rocker & softish rails tighten & sharpen on the pin tail. Big ole stringer courtesy of the Burford blank. Mainly run with a Greenough 10" single fin in the back of the box, but sporadically gets a 2 +1....which always then comes back to the single in short order. At it's powers with a bit of size at the local bommie- but also likes to slide across a point break...
