Any info on "exp..." surfboard brand?

Hi I try to find a bit info on this "exp... Australia" brand, but can't find much online, anyone?

There is an Australian board maker called Explorer that mentions an EXP surfboard but not an exp... surfboard

From what I understand it is a local factory with local blanks and glassing fronted by a shaper from Australia....designs aimed mostly at intermediates, sold in shops in Poppies...Naruki used to carry them new and had contact with the factory with the ability to do custom orders....not sure anymore.

New package was board, fins, leash, tail pad and bag for 4-4.5m depending on the size of the board and which way the wind was blowing at the moment....seen them advertised second hand for 3m which is crazy...2.5m is as much as any of the poppies shops ever have them priced second hand.

I picked up a well used 62x20 1/2x2 5/8 with fins, newish leash and tailpad for a fun low price just under 90 euros. Just to try out how i'm doing on a shorter board. I think the volume is around 35 liters.

I tried it yesterday and had a lot of fun, but not many waves

I'm surprised how well it paddles but duckdiving was still slow. Only a fraction better then my 48 liters Addvance. I must work on my duckdiving technique probably, cos I must be able to get those 35l under nice and deep with my 73kg's right?

I wanted a duckdiving machine for more inside surfing. On my favorite wave, Oldmans, the local coaches put a bunch of beginners on softtops precise on the peak position and this wave has a small takeoff area. When I catch a set wave with my Addvance on the outside, nobody on the inside even makes an effort to make way. They just block the wave..

So sitting inside would do it, but then u must be able to duckdive deep.

The takeoff felt very unstable the first few waves, but after that business as usual, but u must do a quick popup. I catched a nice small righthander and immediately felt the fun of doing shorter and snappier turns. So far so good

I saw that board if it was the same one that was on the buy and sell a week ago.....about 100 other people wanted that as well....you were the lucky one!

If you are able to catch outside of the softies on your advance, why not just get right up in the middle of them and take your waves? That's what I do with the surf schools....as long as you share and treat their students nice (good experiences equal good tips) they let the better ones go for you.....

You gotta make that first one though!

I feel uncomfortable when the softboards start flying around, and I have never seen the local coaches let a better one go. I have seen how they tried to catch the better ones themselves, all of them at the same time, and having a good laugh at the chaos..

Hey, they surf like they drive a car or a bike, they only look for their own interest, don't think of any rules or consequences. But all without any aggression, that u gotta give to them..

When I see the students just go in a straight line to the beach, after the coaches push them into the wave. Next time I take a position on their outside and 'share' the wave with them

That's the one....do you like it? They seem like solid little boards.

I disagree about the self interest thing....that's a pretty dim view of locals you have actually....I have loads more issues with bules on the waves.....generally get on well with locals, not so well with tourists.....for me it's tourists that come with the "no consequences" mindset......."who cares, I'm on vacation!" .....I see the same local guys at the same breaks week in and out....some of them have family that work with me....some actually call me Chef in the water....anyway, how can you keep burning someone who you talk to and surfs next to you on a regular basis? You gotta be a little aggressive though....set up out there with them and take a deeper position outside of the foamie line....then take the wave with style (gotta make it!)....make the waves that you paddle for and you'll get your share....Old Man's isn't a great example though...EVERYONE is out for themselves there....dog eat dog and 5 surfers on a good wave......tell you what, I've never seen 5 local guys all ride the same wave.....bules drop in with impunity and do it all the time, whether or not they know better.......

I tell you what else....catch a wave on the outside and go hard right at the line whooping it up and they figure things out pretty quick....

I had the new old board out for 1 surf now and it felt about right, it's a shame the dims don't mention the volume, I guess it's around 35l. I had a little wave and immediately started turning, it felt nice and snappy. I like it!

About my 'dim view of locals'. I'm an immigrant, I just accept how things are done here. That doesn't necessarily mean I like everything I see, that goes especially for their behaviour in traffic

I have an EXP Australia board which I bought in Bali. The board has a ding, does anyone know if I should be using Epoxy or Polyester to fix the ding? Nothing written on the board and can't get any information online.

Epoxy resin can be used on PU. But repair kits for PU (the resin+catalyst ones) contain styrene and will melt the EPS foam that epoxy boards tend to be made of.

So if you don't know be sure and use epoxy repair kits.

If you use epoxy on a PU make sure you sand/rough up the area round the ding because you'll be relying on a physical bond to hold the two materials together, rather than an chemical bond. If in doubt then it’s good practice to rough up the area anyway (it won’t make any difference if it’s epoxy to epoxy and it’s better when it’s epoxy to PU)

Epoxy repair kits are a bit more expensive but less costly than melting your surfboard
