Cali surfing, Wheres it at?

Hey guys. I might be moving to California to goto school. San Diego to be exact. I was wondering if there was any good surfing spots around that area. If they are farther up north let me know too.

Thats good to hear! But are there spots that stand out more than others as the "local surf spot"

Thats subjective to personal preference and swell. stand out spots that the surfing ethuisiast would have to visit.

Blacks, swamis, cliffs, San O, IB, Big rock, just to name a few. Problem being is some of our best surf spots are either pretty hard to get to like blacks which requires a fair amount of hicking whether down the winding road or down the glider port trail. Or they are somewhat sketchy like Big rock which is probably san diegos fiercest barreling left, very sketchy reef down below though.

You also have to contend with crowds as one things for certain if theres a swell the really good surf spots will be heaving.

My personal fav spots are blacks and the Cliffs. Otherwise i stick to my home break OB for ease as i live right there
