Pickle Wax Remover

I'm going to completely remove the wax of 3 boards, and am going to get some pickle wax remover to do it. Having never bought the stuff before i was just wondering if someone could give me a pointer as to how many removers i should buy? Does 1 packet do roughly 1 board or does it go a bit further. Any help would be appreciated!

i av no idea. i just use a touch of kerosene if i want the deck spotless- works like magic - and no does not harm board at all. not unless you poured a gallon on and left it for a few hours

hmmm, that sounds much better and easier, i'll have to go and get some the moro and see how i get on with it. Waiting for a new shortboard to arrive at the moment,still got a week to go - weather aint great so clean the boards time! Thanks a lot!

I place it out in the sun and let it heat up use a was comb to take off the bulk and then use painthiner to get the last bit off with a few paper towels. Does a great job.

Those pickles are great - use mine a couple of times a year and it cleans the board well.............

cheers for the info everyone - good to hear the pickle wax remover works well, i'll try out the kerosene/paint thinner option 1st, and if it aint good enough i'll buy the wax remover - can't lose!!

I'm in the UK so not sure about were you can buy them but just google 'pickle wax remover' and you should get plenty of options. Magic Seaweed sell them here, among quite a few others.

ya i spent $5 for a gallon of kerosene figure thats enough to last me a life time

I dont know if what i did was a good idea i used just of the boil hot water 85 deg c on me short epoxy board wax came off no problem. the only problem now is it ran off all over the patio out side.

with me BIC took it to work and steam cleaned it all the wax off looks brand new

is hot water good or bad idea???

I use shaping dust. Or saw dust or whatever. Scrape it with a card, put a pile of dust on, and just rub.

Pickle Wax removers are spooky.... scrape wax off the board with a wax comb then use the pickle.. good for about 30 uses... where does the wax go? it kind of turns to dust. eventually the thing looks like an old teabag and you throw it away. Once tried you'll buy all your friends one for christmas!

More and more shops are carrying them now. You still have to use a wax comb to scrape the wax off. The Pickle part helps get the wax bits off after scrapeing. It puts a decent shine on the board. You can keep using the Pickle over and over again and the directions say not to wash it as it gets better after every use. I've only used once and its decent.

iirc the active ingredient in the pickle is acetone. the pickle is pretty much a foam sponge with acetone in a nylon stocking. i have one and it seems the more wax you take off, the easier it is to use.

No, that doesn't sound like a good idea really. At around 130-180 F, surfboard foams 'gas' and expand, which can cause delamination.
