surfboard nose width, how much does it matter?

Postby jackscolon » Thu May 20, 2004 1:10 am

Hey guys, I'm choosing between a 8'2" mini longboard and 7'10" funboard shape. the 8'2" is 17" wide at the nose whereas the 7'10" is 15.5" wide at the nose. The 8'2" has the longboard shaped nose, whereas the 7'10" has a nose that comes to a rounded point. while the 8'2" is probably a better board for me (i'm a beginner and this is my first board) the 7'10" is a lot cheaper, maybe by $100US (the 8'2" is a name brand (BLUE by GSI) and the 7'10" is made by a local shaper). I was wondering if there would be a discernable difference in the nose widths or anything else. The 7'10" also has this Speed Fin setup that's supposed to be differnt from the FCS or Future setups, i dunno if this really has any effect on anything. Can someone clear this up for me too? Everything else is pretty much the same for both boards. Thanks.
