Landlocked surfing

Has anyone ever tried wake surfing? Like as in your behind the boat, laying down on your board, then pull outside, get up, and let go of the rope, and then surfing the wake behind the boat? Or like the waves on the great lakes durring a storm.

Anyone tried any of this stuff?

I don't think surfing the waves at the back of the boat would work as I don't think there would be enough power in them, wouldn't know about the great lakes though?

ive kinda tried it on a knee board, the got push, but not alot. With a longboard or somtin I think it would be possible, I was just seing if anyone has had any luck with it.

watch step into liquid they surf the wake from huge oil tankers aprently not seen it yet though gonna order it next week

Actually there making that into a sport. i remember at the local sports authority they had a "surfboard" for sale but they called it a wake surfboard. I read it and it was exactly what you said up above.

wow cool, could you tell how it was diffrent in any way? was it like kinda fishy or somtin?

there is this one rocket power episode i remember from like 3 years ago where they go into a channel and surf behing the huge oil tankers. the waves they got were like triple overhead though :roll:

umm... remember it being much different then what i was use to seeing. But this was two years ago and i could hardly remember anything about it. It was also right after i started surfing so i didnt know much about boards.

im gunna watch step into liquid to see what they do

but its kinda contridictory because the point of wake surfing was to surf when your in the middle of... land, not near good surf... and theres generally not really giant oil tankers floatin around on your average lake or somtin... and I think I saw taht too...

The boards have a very flat rocker,& small fins. Some look like a traditional surfboard, others look like a skimboard w/fins. Your boat has to make a very large wake. Usualy we add alot of weight to the rear of the boat on one side, also everybody sits overthere too. 10-15' of rope to get you started. Once youre up and in the sweet spot of the wake you drop the rope and the rest is like surfing......except for that sharp spinning thing right in front of you!

I've seen steve irwine (the crocodile hunter) do it before, It looked pretty hard because your were moving at such a high speed even before you hit the "wave"

Wakeboarding's been about for at least a decade now!

Infact the specilist boards are being mass produced and there are many comps...

Or are u just refering to bigger wakes IE bore stylie tanker wakes :p

im not talkin about wakeboarding or wake skating, but getting your surfboard, and surfing the wake behind any kind of boat. Mabie some big tanker, but there generally not in the middle of your average lake in texas. Im like landlocked and its like driving me crazy so yea...

ok I get what you mean but your going to need a fair sized boat and board to surf in a lake

you average boat doesn't produce enough peek and trough to make it surfable even with a 8footer

Plus if if could it would be going too fast.. (ie speed boat,..)
