Hey everyone!

I'm an Irish surfer looking to go to Indonesia (probably Jakarta) for the first time this summer.

Basically there are a LOT of options out there, so before I continue sifting through them for hours on end, I was wondering if there might be people here who have experience with the journey from Europe (preferably UK) to Indonesia and can tell me if there's an established go-to airline or route that you use or prefer? I just found out that Qatar Airways, though having cheap prices, charge 750$ for large sports equipment so I can rule them out. Malaysia Airlines seems promising, as well as Turkish Airlines.

Any tips or help from some veterans of the journey would be greatly appreciated! :D

Lets give you a piece of information, Jakarta on Java, does not have surf, but don’t despair, the whole Cimaja area is on the south coast of Java.
If the board transport costs are so high, you will be able hire a board at most of the surf camps in the area.
Remember a surfboard is personal sporting equipment, and costs for that may be cheaper.
Check with Malaysia airlines, your board just might be included as. Part of your free baggage allowance, conditions apply!
Cimaja is an interest overland trip from Jakarta! Cimaja Beach Club offers airport or elsewhere in Jakarta pick up!
Check out their website and see whether it fits. :D

It sounds like you are a little unaware of Indonesia and what is on offer! Ask more questions and we can help you! :D

See if you can pick up a copy of “ Indo Surf and Lingo” by Peter Neely a really useful source of surf info, Cimaja beach descriptions, and helpful, conversations!.
