Surfing off uk north-east coast

Postby Big Wave Dave » Fri May 23, 2008 1:37 pm

My son is setting-off on Saturday morning 24th May to spend a week in the vicinity of Alnwick, Northumberland.

Currently, his pc is not working so he has asked me to enquire whether there are places where he can surf not far from Alnwick.

Looking at the atlas, I can see Alnmouth Bay.

Have any of you surfed there or anywhere else along that coast? If so, can you please make suggestions as to venues where there would also be facilities for his wife and two young children (girl 6, boy 4) to enjoy themselves while he enjoys himself!!

Many thanks in anticipation of your helpful replies.

Thanks for that suggestion and my apologies for overlooking that there are *two* UK north-east coasts!

Replies on or after 24th May are welcome as I can text the info to my son.

Thanks for that reply, joem.....but which spot would you recommend as having easy access and parking together with facilities (eg cafe and toilets) for my son's wife and young children? They are first timers to the area. He is happy to 'rough it' but he ought to consider their needs :o)

his best bet is porbly bamburgh as it has parking on the beach and there are cafes in the town, it also picks up the most swell in the area.

hey hey

Yep Bamburgh is a good choice, lovely long beach with heaps of sand bars to choose from. Also there is the castle and tea rooms and a little museum to keep the rest of the family happy. Alnmouth is good too but i wouldn't go there personally as the best waves are at the river mouth but it is VERY dangerous to surf there and is for experienced surfers only. The rest of alnmouth beach is no better than Bamburgh.

Hope you have a wicked day and if you see someone messing around on a pink flowery mini mal come say hello!
