More entry level Wetsuit Options

Sorry for the additional new topic.

I am looking for an entry level 4/3 suit. I am around an XL in size.

I see the following suits all around the same price point:

Billabong Intruder
Animal Lava
Gul Response
Rip Curl Omega

Are these all about the same or is one of them by far a better choice? Likewise is there one I shouldn't even consdier?

Also front vs back zipper? I am tall 6'3" with wide shoulders, fairly slim except for a bit of a belly.


I live in San Francisco and there is a Rip Curl outlet in Santa Cruz. Am thinking the Rip Curl might the way to go as I may get better support if I need an followup or repairs?

I don’t necessarily have an opinion on those brands/models (I have a Billabong and love it, but none of the others), but Rip Curl is definitely a quality brand, and the fact that they are close and support/information/follow up is right there would seal the deal for me (plus you can just go there and try them on first).

I like chest zip waaay better than back zip, as they tend to allow less water in, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t like cold water down my spine! I’m sure there are some newer, better back zip systems, but chest zips just perform better IMO.

Since you're talking entry level, I found some cheapies made in China on eBay for less than $40. Usually you get what you pay for. I did read on some other websites that the cheap ones last a little longer because they don't have the high tech stretchy materials to make them comfortable, so weigh that in, comfort vs longevity. Also it will serve well to wear and help you figure out what features you like, then as a backup wet suit when you upgrade. Be aware some of the sizes are stated in Asian size which is far different than Western sizes so make sure you read.

On a similar note, I am looking for an entry level bungee cord. No, but seriously, spend the most you can that your budget allows for a wetsuit. Back zips will be cheaper than chest zips, just make sure there's a inner barrier or bat wing to prevent flushes down your back. ( and easier to get in and out of when your can't feel your fingers )

And try to get GBS ( glued and blind stitched ) . Do not settle for Flat lock or heaven forbid, Overlock

I ripped nearly all of my chest zip getting in and out of it.

The way I see it is that 3/2 or thinner, I'll go for back zip as the water isn't that cold. But when it is above 4/3, go for chest zip because the water is way too cold.

I can’t fit into chest zip wetsuit. XL size as well. However, zipless one is OK. I recommend e-bomb pro! It should be affordable in your outlet. Regular bomb is not stretchy enough.
Bought one without fitting as I assumed that it will be the same as e-bomb pro! And, now I have to ask other people to help me get out of it:)
Frankly speaking, just keep it in the closet!
If you are that tall you may opt for XLT.
Anyway, even dawn patrol is OK but in that case go for a back zipper. I was totally happy with it for a while. Quite warm and durable, although not that stretchy and less comfortable that e-bomb pro.

I ended up getting a Rip Curl Omega 4/3 XL back zip for $110. I think the omega only comes in back zip.

Its on its way I should receive it in 2 days.

Does anyone know if the Omega has a key pocket?
