Men's wetsuit crotch-how can this be altered to fit a gal?

So, none of the women's sleeveless wetsuits available at a certain price fit me well. I had to look at the guy's ones and yup wonderful fit, HOWEVER, it looks like I have a set of balls.
Do I get them to attempt a slight alteration to remove most of that empty bulge or leave as is and hope no one spots it on the the way?

Any other gals have th is problem and how did you fix it?

I've tried to have wetsuits sewn with bad results....stitches just tear through the neoprene....if you look at the stitches there is a unique kind of pattern which I assume resists tearing; the tailors (two separate ones) didn't know or pay attention apparently. If I were you I'd look into suits above your preferred price range; in the end you will save yourself a headache if you can find one that fits without potentially disastrous alteration attempts.

Thanks for that, Big H. If the actual wetsuit seamstresses did the alteration/stitching, would you still be against the idea?

Maybe leave the suit as it is.....never know when you'll grow a pair there charger.....

Add the guys wetsuit price, then the cost of the alterations ( wetsuit seamstress may well be somewhere in SE Asia) the risk the alterations may not work work. Wouldn't it be worth while just putting up the extra dollars.

The only other answer is the German solution "Sockencrotch"

I'm just a little taller than my wife. She tried on my 3/2mm full and "down there" looked normal. I guess her body shape is different than yours or maybe my ............ ahh, forget 'bout it. Where's the delete post button ?

Hijacking this thread - the neck on my front zip has stretched and I get a suit full of water. Has anyone sewed up the neck - I was thinking of folding over the neoprene at the back of the neck into a 'loop' and sewing it up, maybe with fishing line, and covering it up with wetsuit glue. Wouldnt matter re leaks because it wouldnt be part of the suit and I'm hoping it wont create too much of an issue re rubbing (I can always glue a flat patch over it). Anyway, has anyone done something like this?

I think my neck stretched because the shoulders of the suit were a bit small to start with, and as they have stretched over time (due to, you know, my enormous shoulder width), the neck has stretched as well. Or maybe my neck has lost weight?

for the OP - unless its creating an issue re comfort, I wouldnt worry about it. No one will notice - if they are looking in 'that' direction, 99% of the time will be checking out your board (and you shouldnt care in any way what the 1% are thinking). Once you leave the water, if you do feel sensitive, just roll down the top of the suit

I have a steamer that's actually made for a young boy (because children's steamers are sooo much cheaper)

I've noticed I have a bit of a crotch issue too. It's never been a problem when surfing though (in that it's not restrictive) and if someone in the lineup is looking *there*, then a) they probably *won't* be telling you that you have a crotch issue; and b) if they do, they deserve a well-placed surfboard to the face

True, they are expensive. Well, you've chosen a sport where you're prone on a board 40% of the time, sitting on a board 50% of the time, and 10% of the time you're standing or crouched down in a barrel. I like that you added 'or crouched down in a barrel' as if that constitutes such a significant proportion of the standing time that it was worth mentioning. You also forgot the percentage of time floundering in the water as you get caught inside by a clean up set or just from falling off.

I went in looking for a vest, but mine godden ... it just makes getting ready for a session a lot of work - not happening

Okay, maybe I should've mentioned that I'm buying it at the manufacturer who is in my city, Durban, South Africa, and the seamstress was there to discuss the possibility of a crotch nip/tuck that won't cost extra (didn't know people would even consider buying their wetties from out of town).

Oh and the cost is stupidly cheap for an oldstock (not ancient materials though) well known branded item - US$27 for a sleeveless shorty (short john?) that will suite me quite fine - I don't have $110 for a new one.

I think you have it solved if it is an in town and seamstress is there. Almost all off the shelf stuff in surfing is now ( unfortunately made in SE Asia )

I tried to fix the neck of the wetsuit. Sewed some tears, etc. It helped but only for ten sessions and I had rubbing issues from the first day. Sunscreen and a vest (a rash guard) helped a bit but not to the full extent. So, I would say just put on smth underneath the suit: a rash guard or a thin west.

As for the topic starter, just put a plastic bottle with a pair of tennis balls to fill in the empty space and to entertain the crowd at your spot.

Hahaha...I bought it and didn't bother about alterations as on another look it isn't THAT bad actually.
Now to get my 8ft minimal...can't wait!
