Surfing Waves

So last week I took my board out and a fin broke and took off a small hole/chunk of the surfboard. Its possible it happened when I was still out surfing so maybe 15 minutes of continual use in the ocean without me knowing. Or it happened right when I came to shore.

If water gets in my board do you want to fix it asap to prevent further damage? Or is it just okay like it is, and get it repaired in 2-3 weeks? I may not be able to get it fixed right away, so I am a little worried that it may cause further damage if water got inside.

First time I ever damaged my board and I couldn't find anything on if you should get boards fixes asap or not on google.

Yesc, if the break penetrated the outer skin into the foam ASAP . Some epoxy boards destroy themselves quickly if water gets in , PU. Can take some water but the foam become firstly waterlogged and then begins to rot and compress. FIX IT

Any dings I have that are obvious I fix right away. It's the pin holes you get from using a board for a long time that create a lot of water damage on my boards. They are just little pin sized holes in the board that gradually let water in then it delaminates the foam form the fiberglass. Hard to tell that you have them. Only way I know is to dry your board off after surfing one day then set it in the sun and look for little droplets of water that appear due to the heat evaporating the water and forcing it back out through the pin holes. Other than that they turn the foam a different color after a while. I used to get my shapers to put an extra layer of glass on the back one third of my boards to help strengthen them because that is where the pin holes and delamination all appears on my boards (also I used to get huge pressure dings from back foot pressure during turns)

We've all done it before, but never ever put WAX in your ding. Wax and resin dont mix. Wax just gunks up the sandpaper. It will make it harder for the repair guy to fix your board. In Japan, they use this thing called Kitchen Tape. It is a aluminum duct tape thing. Leaves soo much residue. I understand though, if its a once in a ten year swell and you get a ding, hell I aint paddling in.
