Er... yes... I think you may be needing some help here.... :?

Longboard fin on a shortboard? What do you mean by that exactly?

First of all when buying a fin - what make is it? FCS? Futures? Something else?
The make of fin determines whether it'll fit or not.

And then you need to get the right fin - which is a matter of board/weight/size of waves/preference. If you're getting a 'standard' fin from FCS, for instance, then go to their website and read through the descriptions of what you can get.

The other option is to take the old fin out (assuming some of it remains) and look at the base which will often tell you the type of fin it is, so then just buy the same one.

if its broken you'll need it to be fixed, and its not an easy job unless you know what you're doing. also look at what fins there are like DBBB said and choose what best suits you.

depends how bad it is, and what is needed to be done but shouldn't cost too much

Same thing happened to me, fin ripped out, plugs and everything, luckely I still have the fin (it was still on my board, but the plugs where 90% out of my board, but it didn't fall out. Sorry, it is hard to describe.)
