Just about to start surfing

Postby Lister87 » Sat Mar 08, 2008 2:36 pm

So i am going to start to learn to surf in the next few months i hope, and i wondered what the best equipment to buy would be?

I've followed the sport for a while now, but haven't ever tried it.

Thanks.

no need for the best stuff. a minimal or longboard would be best, with a leash and some wax...depends where you live on wetsuits, boots, gloves and a hood, but thats just about all you need...as well as waves and a lift to the beach.

make doesn't matter too much as a beginner, but make sure the equipment isn't damaged when you buy it (if ts second hand)

go for it

for your first board you want a Longboard or a Funshape, it will give you the most stability.
I'm not sure where you're at but a 3/2mm wetsuit is usually the best way to go, as well.
Remember, don't drop-in on someone already riding the wave and don't go out when in doubt.
Don't forget to enjoy yourself and don't let anyone discourage you from having your fun.

Cheers for the sites and info, ill bookmark these! So generally a medium long - longboard? Cool

I skateboard, so i guess balance from that might help a little when surfing?

Or not at all? Haha!

yeah go with a nice longboard that can easily keep u afloat. and yeah skateboarding should help because you will be comfortable with being on a board.

Hey cheers for the tips everyone.

I just wondered two boards for sale in the local area..now to me the MAURICE COLE seems to be a steal at £120...but a mate of mine said a larger board would be better for beginning on, which yeh is true as has said above, but i just love the design of the maurice cole..maybe i could get it, keep it for later? Haha!

Go for something 8-9ft minimum.

Custard point boards are ace, but 6'8 is too short unless you 11.
