What would you do with this ?

I've been surfing for a long while, but repair is something I have never done too much of, sadly though because it is such a valuable skill to know for people who like to surf. I bought this new 6'0 rusty Dozer ( my first "new" surfboard I've ever owned ) and I think someone in my family ( not admitting ) dropped it on rail.

I tried to take the best picture I could take of it, but is this something you folks would repair ? The board is epoxy. I really appreciate your advice!

You need to find if there's water going in, usually if your finger nails stick in the crack when you scratch the board it's a sign it might be a leak. You can also wait the board surface to dry after surfing and suck the crack to check if you taste salty water.

If water is going in it's a good idea to fix it as soon as you can. I never did any epoxy fix (just polyester), but the guidelines are basically the same: wait for the board to dry completely, sand down the crack, apply the resin with the catalyst and then sand down the excess. I don't even think you'll need any fiberglass for that fix.

I'm new to surfing but in my experience with paying for a similar repair on my (also new) board, it looks like just the gloss. I got a 2" long sort of scrape on one of my rails last month. I freaked out because it was only a couple of weeks after I bought the thing and it was a completely different color underneath. I later realized that it was probably from an old wooden 4x4 looking thing in Long Beach (NY) that I wiped out near and dragged out before someone got hurt on it.

I showed a few other people... they said it was fine and just cosmetic. They told me the same as what IanCaio says - the true sign of a needed repair is if it's taking on water. So yeah, the suck on your board thing. It sounds ridiculous but it is what it is. Pucker up buttercup!

I ended up getting it repaired because I didn't want to be thinking "what if?" The repair guy originally told me $35 and when I picked it up he said "just give me $20 - it was nothing." He also went over a few more tiny scrapes. Anyway, I think it's purely cosmetic, and if you're still worried, take it in for a repair - it shouldn't be too much.

Can't tell from the photo, but is your Rusty Dozer a EPS/epoxy that has a wood stringer running down the center OR a Surftech TLPC that's more opaque white and does not have a wood stringer ?

Be sure to post here or ask someone who is knowledgeable first before picking up a repair kit and start plastering the spot with resin. The wrong kind will eat up your foam!

Since it is a Surftech Rusty, it's probably just a scuff mark. Just dab some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and clean it off.

I wish that was true haha I'd be stoked, I can feel the crack with my finger Nail, so I've kinda gathered that I think some resin will do for this minor of a fix

Make sure it is the right kind of resin. Stuff like that I use a marine epoxy glue putty......not a pretty repair but is sabda me and works.....works right away actually, have surfed with a new patch 10 min after applying before..

If it truly is a Surftech TLPC, if you say you can feel the crack, that is then probably just the paint layer cracking. But if you're hell bent on putting resin ( epoxy resin NOT polyester resin ) , how are you going to go about it on a very thin line like that ?

Question: is there another thin line near and running parallel to the line in the photo ? If there is , you got a problem.

It is a TLPC haha it's the second TLPC board I have owned and for the most part I love the technology, just was confused when I saw this. I am not super sure how I will go about it haha maybe I will just take it in to a surf repair shop and see what they can do with it.

To answer: no there are no other cracks near the crack mentioned
