FireWire vs al merrick

What do you guys think is better? FireWire boards or Al merrick boards. I know fire wires don't ding as easily, but I have heard they are horrible when it choppy. What do you guys think is better?

I'm not really keen on Merrick boards as is, feel they are made too easy to snap. I prefer Rusty's over Al Merrick boards.

That said, I'm a big dude and hate firewires, but my much lighter buds love theirs over the merricks.

Which firewire (and which construction)? Some of them are big volume (Addvance, dominator) and some are high performance. I imagine the former might be affected by the chop, the latter probably are not (any more than other similar sized board).

Any eps core board with an epoxy shell will be bouncy because of its characteristics I.e. light weight more buoyant etc. As far as merricks go I tried a step up shaped by him and it was definitely not enough board for me.

For me, you can't go wrong with an Al Merrick surfboard. I recently picked up a Flyer 2 model, and I'm absolutely in love with it. The thing goes in waist high, to head high, and it's really snappy in the turns.

I've seen a lot of people surfing the firewires, but I'm weirded out by the material. I surf poly boards, just a personal preference, I like the way they feel. Also, I think if you take care of a poly board, you put it in a board bag right after use, get dings fixed, and treat it properly, you can get a long life out of a poly board.

I agree on the Flyer. It's been around a while, but I went back to it not too long ago. It's a good solid board.
