Board for hollow(er) and steep(er) waves

Can u not go to a local shaper and have a board that is made as u want it for u that way u will get a board which is right for what u want to surf

The local shaper sucks. He has build very losusy boards for some of my friends and he tends to be lazy and he has even stole a friends money. Getting boards from shapers around here is getting expensive too.

I also explained that i mentioned CI models because they are easier to relate too Not that im commited to getting one.

I could have asked a shaper about this, but i can also ask other surfers with more experience their opinion on the matter. If it bothers you so much to take your time to explain to me your toughts then why bother? Move on to the next thread. If you have something to sya that may help me out understand this whole surfing thing better then i would really apreciate you to share it with me and others.

What i want too achieve with this thread is too understand more about how diferent kind of boards perform in order to be able to make wiser buys either at:
* A shaper
* The used board market
* The local surfshop

BTW
There is a 6´4 Proton at the local store that i can try to swap in for my 6´3 Flyer 2.
Is it a wise trade to fill the gap in my quiver for the waves i described?

best thing i can say is try as many boards as u can til u find one u like without surfing the waves u surf and seeing how u surf, noone on here can tell u what board to get only give u an idear of whta boards too try out.
I am 5'10ish and ride boards that range from 5'10 too about 6'6 U want to go with a board that has a round pin or pin tail as they hold better in bigger steaper waves and a nice rocker so it slots into the curl of the wave. Thats all i can say without knowing your hieght waight and how good u are.

But seriously if your local shaper sucks then errr broaden your horizons a bit eh If its specifics you want then seeing a decent shaper is the only way to guy other than that ESSEX is right try a ton of boards. The only way to find something that fits what you want the board to do is either have enough board experience or see a shaper who knows what they are doing.

I mean what is all the fuss about questions sounding "too dumb" or "naive" or whatever.
What i meant is that no one is obligated to read the threads or to answer them. So let´s stop the negative feedback.
Yet everyone here is entitled to post his/hers opinions or questions without having to be ducking their heads from others who think what they are saying is wrong or plainly "dumb".
Maybe i am too defensive because of all the "hate posts" not only on this forum but on many others.

I have so many questions rewarding this sport and i haven´t posted many of them because of fearing the threads turning into

Try different fin setups: I have both the k2.1 and the k3 fins, the 2.1 are way better when it's steep and hollow, but if it's big and fast and not so hollow the k3's are better. My favorite all purpose find are the GMB, the mayhem fins that come with lost boards.

My favorite big wave fins are the Occy's, they slot and hold, 2nd choice are the merricks, a little more toed out so even more hold but a little slow for my taste, but they keep you way up in the pocket but you loose a little bit of glide.

If you have the standard M5 or worse the old G5's then you are really missing out on the complete performance of your board.

(by the way, tried the H2's, did not like them for my style of surfing...)
