Sandwich to traditional construction

Hey all. I'm still on my quest for a new board. I decided on going with a fishy shape, with the main contenders being the Xanadu Rocket Fish and Xanadu Rocky. I've been hearing rave reviews about these boards, and I'm pretty stoked on trying it out for myself.

I'm planning on asking my shaper if he could replicate either the Rocket Fish or the Rocky. Yet, I realized that both boards utilize Surftech Tuflite technology. If I order a copy of one of these shapes, will the traditional PU construction drastically alter the way the board rides?

I'm worried if the exceptional performance reviews of the Xanadu's will go out the window if they are constructed differently.

I just ordered me a Proctor, in "Proxy" finish + more. I am told there will be plenty of flex with this board. I can't wait. My 1st custom. I'm so stoked!

Just like they all say....... "Talk to your shaper" He will tell you what his board will feel like in PU vs epoxy.

Yep any good shaper will be able to work out how much volume you'll need in a board. Best thing about actually speaking to a shaper is that he'll ask you several very important questions like your weight and your surfing ability/fitness? By doing this he'll get the correct amount of volume in your board so you wont have that 'corky' feeling that many people say you get with Surftechs.

If you had 2 identical boards, one was EPS and the other was standard PU the EPS board would roughly have about 10% more float.

I had the Rocky copied and loved it. My shaper explained that for epoxy traditional construction he actually uses more cloth than fiberglass but still is lighter, something to do with how light and brittle eps blanks are. I originally wanted the Rocky off the rack but it did not come in my size, now I am glad I had my shaper make it. Also, my shaper made mine with 5 fins so I could use it as a quad or thruster, used the quad set up for small or mush days and thruster for steep. I loved it, sold it to a bud and had a similar one made even now. The epoxy and thicker rails allowed me to go down to 6'1", for a 205lb guy this is sweet.
