m-13 or mbb

i currently have the m-13 from channel islands. it's a 7'4 board. i feel like this board is not manuverable enough for me. i see all the shortboarders doing these move and i can't do it. i'm 6'7 and weigh about 220. do you guys think the mbb is a better board for turning, or is my abilities not up to par. what recommendation do you guys have for boards and heights. thanks for the advice

6'7"? Damn, you're a big one.

But, not to be as harsh as scarborough, it's not about the board. It's about the surfer. Once you get good enough, you'll know what board you need to get for yourself - heck, you might even put all that cash you spent on a Channel Island (to look cool? Like a real surfer? To be in style?) into a custom board that will be better, anyway.

with your size and weight ratio i would reccomend going to see a shaper. Miind you i'll say that regardless - best way to go

Although I think either way you will end up with a similar board with your weight/height

Have you considered a shorter Epoxy board? T2 or simillar.
Also the Channel Islands "BISCUIT" rips. If your looking for better floatation and paddling because of your size, the Biscuit padles like a long board but can be surfed quite short and very Monouverable.

Get a bigger board, you are big, think big !

No need to do what the little guys do, if you use your size correctly you will be able to do things which they can't, and remember that heavier means faster !

or keep the existing fin and attach a real longboard to it

either way is guaranteed to work.


Got some fantastic hate mail yesterday from a crazed Swaylocks member, thankfully they stay in their cage most of the time. There was some Roy talk after I left so I made a platoon of trolls and messed the forum up, then promised to take a weeks holiday and give them a week of H e ll if they ever mention me again, it worked, I'm now officially a taboo subject.

I would not suggest a MBB or a M13 for what you are asking for. For being your size, you will do better on a Flyer in a 7'0 to 7'6. If you surf pretty good, then go 6'8. Best overall board for beginners or intermediate.

That was an excellent question, though it is a bit dated. It would be nice for someone to compare the two models.
