2 new shortboards : Simon Anderson & Slide

I like the Simon for the juicer stuff, the Slide is easy & fun in smallish conditions.

Anyone tried the Simon SXE or SXE2? Thoughts compared to the XFC?

The Simon rides great in smaller waves, it's just harder to catch a wave with it because it's thinner, lighter, less wide. Once up, the Simon is good. It's got FCS K-3 fins on it right now and is pretty fast, with med rocker and single to double concave. Great board, though would have gotten it an inch or two shorter or maybe slightly wider.

Wax job: no tape, just drawing an outline with the base coat to stay within while waxing up. New board excitement ... yep looked all clean for the photo. Already bunged the boards up a bit since

Posh? Guess it might look like that, but the apartment is a cheap furnished place I'm renting in France, the owners' grandparents probably lived there before cos the decoration is old stuff leftover from long ago.

I go local shaper most of the time, never heard of slide but I would think any reputable local shaper makes better boards than ANY chinese popouts. Simon Anderson are a well known line, nice find.

Yup agreed. My first board purchase was a Thai pop-out, a Maurice Cole copy. A good board to learn on, but after the first Asian board I don't think a discerning surfer ever buys a second one.

The Simon is aussie-made, I picked it out at Surf Odyssey shapers in nearby Hossegor (SW France) where Handley (DHD), Simon, Maurice Cole and Chevallier do resident shaping, it was one of the best-finished Simon boards they had. Bums me out to bung it up...

Slide is Gerard Duval, his website is www.slidesurfboards.com but it's only in French, he also runs the forum SHAPER CAFE (www.shapercafe.com).
