Surfing in Sao Paulo

São Paulo is the most populous city in Brazil and is home to many surfers.
Not at surfer or the waves are flat? here's what you can do in São Paulo while not surfing.

There are some great waves in the area south of Rio de Janeiro. Although there are not many on this map at the moment, the expansive coastline is home to many great waves.
North east, easterly and southerly swells all hit the beaches here, and travel south of São Paulo and Santos will turn up lots of empty gems.
The largest and most consistent surf arrives in July and August, but the sea temperature is lower this time of year.

Typically surfers here will ride shortboards and for most of the year you can get away with boardshorts with a warm rashguard or wetsuit jacket if a little chilly.
Take plenty of surf wax, you'll be doing a lot of surfing.
