Somo Beach stretches over 4 km, and when it merges with Loredo Beach, you've got an incredible 7 km of golden sand to explore. With so much space, it's no surprise that there are peaks all along the shoreline. Whether you’re tucking into a sheltered spot near the strut when the swell is pumping, or lining up in front of Somo town near the boat, there’s always a wave to chase. Further along, the peaks around the old Somo campsite deliver fun lefts and rights when the swell lines up, while the rock, the bend, and the crumbles in the middle of the beach tend to pick up the most swell. This section, sitting between Somo and Loredo, is wide open to the Atlantic, meaning it gets the best waves without interference from Mouro Island or Santa Marina—both legendary big wave spots when the Bay of Biscay is firing.
Somo is an epic place for all levels of surfers. If you're just starting out, you'll always find a mellow peak to build confidence. And if you're looking to sharpen your skills, there’s no shortage of waves to push yourself.
No matter the season, Somo delivers waves every single day. And when the sun sets, you’re in for a treat—golden hues over a wild, unspoiled beach that, despite being close to town, still feels like a natural paradise.
