Billabong Girls QSS set for Burleigh Heads next weekend
The second event of the inaugural Billabong Girls Queensland Surfing Series (QSS) will be held on the Gold Coast this weekend, the 4th and 5th of June. Following on the heels of the all-star show down during the first event of the Billabong Girls QSS series on the Sunshine Coast over Easter.
This 2nd round will once again see the countries best women surfers congregate this time on the Gold Coast with the caliber of competitors such as Bilinga's Golden Girl Sheridan Shield (currently at home between WQS events) who'll be pitting her seasoned contest skills up against the likes of rising surf stars such as Cronulla's Lyndsay Noyes currently sitting 2nd on Surfing Australia's Junior womens ratings and Tugun surfer Arini Mason who is one of the next hot talents to emerge from what has been a massive field of young future surf champions bursting onto the contest scene in this country over the last 12 months.
No one more has had an instant rise to stardom of late than that of pint sized, 14 year old, Giant killer Sally Fitzgibbons of Gerroa who Etched her Name in Australian Surf History to be the youngest ever surfer, male or female to win an ASP rated Pro-Junior event at the first Billabong Girls QSS event on the Sunshine Coast. Fitzgibbons placed second in the opens behind Rebecca Woods after astonishing contest organizers by bagging wins in the under 16yrs, under 18yrs and the Pro Junior division all in the same event on the same weekend. She will certainly be one to watch out for next weekend especially if the waves are small.
This Billabong Girls QSS series give women a chance to launch their surfing careers as well as using this event as a warm up to their WQS and Pro Junior campaigns with surfers traveling from all around Australia to compete in the events wide range of divisions such as the under 14yrs, under 16yrs, under 18yrs, under 21yrs, Seniors, Masters, opens and open B's.
The atmosphere surrounding this event will be electric, vibrant and a true celebration of what it means to be a surfing girl in 2005, be sure not to miss it. The event is based at Burleigh Heads but is fully mobile and will take advantage of the best waves available on the Gold coast each day.
