SIMA Surfing America USA Championships Set to Decide 2007 USA Champions

San Juan Capistrano, Calif. - October 16, 2007 - Surfing America, the national governing body for surfing in the USA, is gearing up for the annual SIMA Surfing America USA Championships on the southside of the Huntington Beach Pier. The event, which decides the undisputed USA surfing champions by pooling top talent from the ESA, HSA, NSSA, TGSA, and WSA, is set for Huntington Beach during October because it is known for its optimal swell and weather conditions.

A stellar list of entrants is confirmed for this year including two-time Boys Under 14 Champion Riley Metcalf, and defending Girls Under 18 Champion Courtney Conlogue.

"The talent coming forward to compete this year in incredible," said Surfing America Executive Director Mike Gerard. "We look forward to the best, most competitive USA Championships to date. Also, the USA Surf Team Trials will take place on Sunday the 28th--the day immediately following the Championships event. This one day Trials event will also be webcast and will conclude with the announcement of the 2008 USA Surf Team."

In 2006, the USA Championships were noted as the premier event in American junior surfing, thanks to a WCT/WQS panel of judges, live scoring and four-person, twenty minute heats. Although, the event is youth focused, it still holds divisions for elder surfers as well.

The schedule of events is as follows:

October 22-23

Mens Longboard
Senior Longboard
Girls Longboard
Womens Longboard

Womens Bodyboard

October 24-27

The final heat draw and schedule will be posted on www.surfingamerica.org on Friday, October 19th.
