Top surfers rip it up at Billabong Creek to Creek Classic

SURFERS FROM ALL OVER QUEENSLAND RIP UP THE WAVES AT BILLABONG CREEK TO CREEK CLASSIC
TOP SEEDS TO HIT THE WATER ON SUNDAY
 

Surfers from all over Queensland began the battle for $5,000.00 in prize money on Day 1 of the Billabong Creek to Creek Classic. The top seeds hit the water on Sunday, but the surfing on the ½ to 1 metre Palm Beach peaks was red hot with quite a few surfers that could shake the top seeds from their perch. 

Local underground legend, Jay Phillips (Fingal) was one of the standouts, grabbing the highest wave score (8.93) and 2 wave combined heat score (16.60) of the first day’s competition. Cabarita surfer Josh Fuller was also on fire, scoring a heat total of 16.34 out of a possible 20. 

Sunshine Coast surfers were also performing well, Sasha Stocker(ex-Maroochydore), Daniel Vardi (Sunshine Beach), Dale Lovelock (Caloundra) through to take on the top seeds, Blake Wilson was the best performed of the Sunshine Coasters, scoring the 2nd highest wave score (8.67) and 3rd highest heat score (15.5). 

Local lads from Palm Beach also were performing Darren Scott, Steve Simpson, and Rory Togo coming up with the goods to take on the seeds Sunday morning. Defending Billabong Creek to Creek Classic champion Samba Mann will be in the 5th heat to hit the water on Sunday to start the defense of his title, and will face some tough competition from the qualifiers and other top seeds like Shaun Gossman (Snapper), Mark Richardson (Palm Beach), Luke Jory (Noosa), Dave Reardon-Smith (Coolum), and Mitch Laugher (Yamba). 

Not only will all the surfers be chasing first prize and the $2,000.00 and ratings points it brings, but also the Tooheys Extra Dry “Wave of the Weekend” where the surfer who scores the wave dubbed to be the best of the weekend by the judges, will receive 4 cartons of Tooheys Extra Dry. 

Organizers will be deciding on a venue for the event from 6.30 am, competition to commence from 8.00 am with the final to be begin at approximately 1m. 

The Billabong QCC is proudly presented by Vodafone and supported by Surfing Queensland.

Venue – Mobile on the Gold Coast but traditionally held between Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creek Mouths.
Defending Champion – Samba Mann (Also 2004 Billabong QCC Series Champion)
Prize Money – Total prize pool - $5,000.00, 1ST prize - $2,000.00
