ISA To Award Twenty Junior Surf Scholarships

San Diego, Calif. – August 14, 2007 - The International Surfing Association, the World Governing Authority for surfing, will award twenty scholarships to junior surfers in 2008.  Billabong and Quiksilver are partnering with the ISA to offer this incredible opportunity to junior surfers.

The ISA Individual Scholarship Program debuted in 2007, when five scholarships were awarded to junior surfers.  The winners, also named ISA Junior Ambassadors, were from South Africa, Peru, Ecuador, Jamaica and Chile, and received $1200.

The Individual Scholarship Program's main objective is to provide financial support in order to facilitate an experience in surfing while encouraging the importance of education. The money must be used to travel to surf contests, and/or buy new equipment and to foster their education. Additionally, the program offers added incentive for national surfing federations to send teams to ISA events furthering the reach of surfing as scholarship recipients can use the experience to become better surfers, potential national champions, even possibly world champions all the while continuing with their education.

Application information for the 2008 scholarship will be available in the upcoming weeks on the ISA website, www.isasurf.org

The September issue of Surfer magazine features the first ISA Individual Scholarship Program ad featuring all the 2007 recipients.  The ad will also appear in the October issue of Surfing and second issue of OLAS magazine, the Latin American Spanish magazine.
