Lozano King of the Junior Pro Division In Chile
With an outstanding performance, the Mexican surfer Angelo Lozano was the great winner of the Junior Pro division in the Reef Classic Latin Pro Chile, Latin Tour second stage, in the difficult waves of Reñaca. The surfer from Puerto Escondido proved that he´s ready for this year challenges, and that he will be a tough to beat competitor on the Junior Pro and on the Open Pro division.
On his first round heat, he obtained a combined score of 12,26 points and made it to the quarter-finals, leaving behind Venezuela´s big promise, Argentinean Lucas Santamaría and the local Maximiliano Cross. On the next stage and in man-to-man modality, Lozano beat Brazilian Felipe Texeira on a very close heat.
With closing out waves, Angelo had to lean on his quick backside to make a difference in front of another Brazilian surfer, this time it was Víctor Juns who couldn’t stop the Mexican either. Lozano was on his first ALAS tour 2007 final.
Dylan Soutworth, another Mexican, was the other finalist who tried to stop Angelo Lozano’s big moment. However, his 7,17 points weren’t enough against the 12.83 the big winner of the Junior Pro division got.
The Mexican surfer said to Pablo Zanocchi –ALAS press manager-: “I’m very happy for this victory. I think the Junior Pro is a very tough division now that it’s been changed from Under 18 to Under 20. If you look carefully at it, two Juniors were the ones who achieved more in the Open Pro and one of them was in the final. This shows that on the Pro Junior division there is a very good level of competition now. That’s why I enjoy so much this victory, because it wasn’t easy to win.”
Angelo also participated on the Open division were he got to the quarter-finals. After the awards ceremony, the Puerto Escondido promise said to Surfpress: “I’m really happy for this first place in the Jr Pro, now there are more and best surfers in this division and it’s always the best to start with a first place on the ranking. The waves were tough throughout all the event, but luckily I found the right ones in all my heats to get to the final. This way I could compensate for the results on the Open division where I lost on the fourth round. My mate Dylan Southworth from Sayulita helped me as he eliminated Manuel Selman from Chile and Francisco Bellorin from Venezuela.”
As the Reef Classic Latin Pro Chile was taking place, Lozano was interviewed by several journalist that were covering the event. For example, he had a long interview with the Sport Channel ESPN with the cameras of Gravedad Zero.
Next weekend, Angelo Lozano will be participating in the Reef Classic Latin Pro Peru, which will take place on Punta Rocas on the third stop of the ALAS tour 2007.
