Surfing South Africa sanctioned events for junior girls (U14, U16, U18 & U20)
Jeffreys Bay (mobile) – 9&10 April 2005
Cape Town (mobile) – 23&24 July 2005
Durban (New Pier) – 15&16 October 2005
The highly successful Roxy Surf Jam series of surfing events for junior girls aged 20 and younger will comprise three events in 2005 with one each at Jeffreys Bay and Cape Town and the grand finale in Durban.
‘After a very successful first year for the Roxy Surf Jam Series, we’ve decided to streamline the series making the events better and bigger,’ says Roxy brand manager Natasha Bellingan. ‘The three events, as opposed to six last year, will allow us to offer improved events all round, thereby continuing to attract the cream of South Africa’s female surfing talent,’ she explained.
Conceived in 2004 to increase the opportunities for up-and-coming young female surfers countrywide, the Roxy Surf Jam events are designed to attract new talent to contest surfing while affording the more seasoned surfers regular competitive experience. Competitors may enter more than one division, but not more than two.
A total of R32 000 in prize-money will be at stake in this year’s series with the Jeffreys Bay and Cape Town tournaments offering R8 000 each and the final event in Durban doubling the total to R16 000. The top four finishers in each of the Under 14, U16, U18 and Pro Junior (U20) divisions receive prize-money at every event.
