Saltrock Open Set For 15th-17th April - Croyde Bay

The 2006 British Professional Surfers Association (BPSA) Tour kicks off 15-17th April with the return of the Saltrock Open at Croyde Beach.
Saltrock hosted an epic contest last year that saw great swell, good weather and a strong turn-out of the UK’s top surfers. South African Clinton Frazer took home the title last year and will be keen to retain it in hopefully the same conditions as last year. This year the three-day event opens with a prize purse of £3,250 and confirmed categories; Men’s Open, Pro-Juniors, Groms under 12’s, Groms Under 16’s and a Women’s Open. The grom events are particular exciting this year, giving the ever increasing number of talented youngsters a chance to compete and to prime themselves for competition as they get older.
Saltrock’s history in Croyde spans over 18 years and as such the company is an integral part of the local surfing community. Proud to be once more hosting such an important stop on the BPSA tour Martin Peirce adds:
“This year’s additions to the Saltrock Open aim to get even more of the local surfing community and families involved. We’ve introduced the groms contest, to open up an opportunity for kids who are maybe slightly daunted by the extremely high standard of the Pro Juniors and of course created a Women’s Open to strengthen our ongoing support for women’s surfing. We look forward to welcoming back the pros from their winter travels, with a contest that is undoubtedly one of the best on the UK surf calendar”.
Dave Reed, Director of the BPSA also commented, “ Saltrock have once again shown their commitment to the BPSA Tour and British Surfing by sponsoring the Saltrock Open! Last years event was definitely one of, if not the highlight of the tour in terms of conditions and atmosphere and we can expect the same this year from Saltrock. It is a pleasure to be involved with one of the leading UK based surf brands and we, the BPSA, look forward to working with Saltrock this year and in years to come”
A massive thanks goes to Saltrock for their support of British Surfing. Thanks also to tour sponsors Foster’s who’ll be back with a barbie and evening party for the weekend and Freerange Sports Optics (FSO) who will again be providing £250 for the Freerange Money Moves throughout the tour with this event being best air.
