Roxy Pro Round 3 Relocates to Duranbah
Round three of the Roxy Pro presented by Samsung will commence at Duranbah Beach on the Gold Coast of Australia at 8am this morning. Contest director Rod Brooks, is looking to run the Men's Foster's Expression Session immediately following the eight heats of Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women's World Tour surfing.
Today's contest venue, which is approximately 200 meters south of Snapper Rocks, is serving up three foot (one meter) waves this morning. Opening rounds of the Quiksilver Pro fared well when they went mobile to "D'bah" yesterday.
The savage storm, which hammered the Gold Coast for four days, has seen the demise of the famed "Superbank," the sand bar at Snapper Rocks known for producing high performance waves. Luckily, several other sites in the surrounding area can step up to host the events.
A highly anticipated heat between reigning event champ and Roxy Pro wildcard Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) and reigning world champion Chelsea Georgeson will hit the water at approximately 9am today. Both are locals and both are favored to do well here, but Gilmore and Georgeson alike are fully aware that only one of them will advance to the next round.
