JEFFREYS BAY, South Africa (Thursday, July 21, 2011) - After waiting for the optimal tide this morning, event organizers at the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay have called competition back on with the remaining six heats of Round 2 commencing at 10:15am.
Event No. 4 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay has endured a rough patch of swell over the past several days, but this morning's clean, consistent three-to-four foot (1.5 metre) waves have been well worth the wait.
"Conditions have significantly improved this morning and we'll commence the remaining six heats of Round 2 at 10:30am, Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. "We'll put the first six heats of Round 3 on standby as well and will monitor the swell throughout the day."
Surfline, official forecasters for the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay, are calling for a solid SSW swell to begin filling in today and build through the weekend.
Up first this morning will be Damien Hobgood (USA), 32, against compatriot Taylor Knox (USA), 40, in Heat 7 of Round 2.
