2005 Quiksilver orld Junior Champs Team to be Awarded IOC Presidents Trophy
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President's Trophy has arrived at the International Surfing Association's headquarters and will be awarded to the top ranking national team at the end of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships 2005.
ISA President Fernando Aguerre will present the illustrious trophy at the Award Ceremony scheduled for October 16, 2005. Individual members of the victorious team will also receive ISA gold medals.
Last year in Tahiti, Australia came out on top taking home the trophy and the World Junior Championship Team title.
This year, the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships will be hosted by Surfing America and sponsored by Quiksilver. It is set to take place in Huntington Beach October 8th through October16th. It will showcase talented young athletes from over 22 countries around the world battling it out to take home individual and team titles.
The ISA awarded the first IOC President's Trophy for surfing to the USA nine years ago in 1996 at the World Surfing Games in Huntington Beach. This commemorated the first time surfers competed in an event under the Olympic Movement.
The IOC gives the President's Trophy to officially recognized International Federations. The International Surfing Association has been recognized by the IOC as the International Governing Body for surfing and all wave riding sports since 1995.
