World's best beachbreack inaugurates ASP Super Series

For its 19th edition, the unmissable Rip Curl Pro Hossegor will host the first and only Super Series event on the 2005 ASP circuit. More than just a straight-forward contest, this event will stand out as one of the main highlights on the international surf scene.

Rip Curl is proud to inaugurate this year's new format of ASP contest and delighted to be organising one of the summer's biggest events around it. The Super Series will be a hybrid format of WQS and WCT contests benefiting from an 'upgraded' WQS format both in terms of points and prize money.

The number of competitors will also be more limited (to 144 intsead of 240 in the WQS 6 stars). The Rip Curl Pro Hossegor guarantees a top notch show. From the quarter-finals onwards, the contest format will consist of 'man-on-man' heats in order to raise both performance level and understanding of spectators. Priority is given to those WCT surfers who wish to gain points for their re-qualification ratings.

It's a unique event, at a legendary spot. Unfolding on the rough coasts of Hossegor and Seignosse (Southern Landes), the Rip Curl Pro brings perfect conditions together for a world-class event (fine sand, powerful waves and a unrivalled atmosphere).

From Hawaii to Tahiti via the shores of South Africa, the reputation of this beachbreak has travelled the globe, seducing the world's best surfers. The likes of Taj Burrow, Pancho Sullivan, Joel Parkinson, Tim Curran, Sunny Garcia and Bruce Irons return year after to year to take it on.

This unique set up is sure to go off with $150 000 of prize money, 144 of the world's best surfers, the best sand banks off the wild coast of Hossegor / Seignosse and the unique atmosphere that has won the Rip Curl pro its reputation.

The complete programme includes:

- A Pro Junior 2 star event (19th to 21st August)
- The finals of the European Gromsearch (open to girls and boys under 16 only)
- Beach Party presented by KAS on Friday 20th August at the Rock Food
- A concert/movie night at la Centrale.

Tom Curren and other international riders Jamie O'Brien, Ben Dunn and Raoni Monteiro will be present both on the giant screen and in person for the screening of Innervision, the latest Rip Curl video release. (26th August)
