Countdown to Ripcurl Boardmasters Festival week
With just one week to go until the Ripcurl Boardmasters Festival at Fistral from 1st – 7th August, the preparations for the UK’s biggest free lifestyle festival are well underway.
It looks like promising swell for the Ripcurl Boardmasters and Nokia Pro Women’s surf contests as news reaches us that tropical Storm Franklin has formed in the Atlantic Ocean. It is now becoming disorganised and may not increase to hurricane strength but providing it does not dissipate after passing Bermuda, it is possible this system will deliver to Western Europe later next week just in time for Newquay event.
This year’s festival will be the biggest Boardmasters week yet. More events have been scheduled than ever before, including the Nokia Unleashed Music Festival, headlined by some of the UK’s biggest musical talents Razorlight and James Blunt, currently UK number one in the singles and album chart.
Professional skate events include Vans Summer Sessions, Freerange Street Skate, Eastpak Mini ramp and demos from BMX running throughout the week. As well as all the action sports entertainment, the Nuts Boardmasters Babes Bikini Contest takes place at Fistral following a 2 month National search for the hottest girls in bikinis and the world premiere of the acclaimed surf movie “Riding Giants” featuring surfers like Greg Noll and Laird Hamilton, the screening takes place at 6.30 pm on Thursday 4th August on the beach with free admission to all.
Foster’s Beach Bars and Barbeques provide a chill-out area where DJ’s will be playing tunes to suit the mood as it changes throughout the day. Grab a couple of pints and a burger at the Foster’s Barbie and check out the action on the Nokia Big Screens. Radio 1 will also be at Fistral with live shows throughout the weekend, promising an awesome turn-out for an epic event.
