Rip Curl Boardmasters 2005 Updates

Not long to go now until The Rip Curl Boardmasters 2005 and there are some new developments to get you excited about for the week long lifestyle surf festival taking place from 1-7 th August on Fistral Beach, Newquay.

First up is the entry list for the Rip Curl Pro Mens 5 Star WQS Event. There are 4 WCT surfers confirmed in Tom Whittaker, Toby Martin, Victor Ribas and Rip Curl rider Darren O’Rafferty. Other top names confirmed to battle for the $100,000 are Shane Bevan and Rip Curl team riders Pancho Sullivan, Ben Dunn, Brian Toth, Zane Harrison and Kieren Perrow. Make sure you check these guys out as the standard will not get any better in the UK this year.

Next up is the Nokia Womens Pro with it’s $25,000 prize money and once again the standard is pretty darn hot. Half of the WCT tour is confirmed including Mel Redman-Carr, Rebecca Woods, Rip Curl rider Jacqueline Silva, Serena Brooke, Claire Bevilacqua, Laurina McGrath, Heather Clark, Melanie Bartels and Pauline Menczer as well as Nokia riders Marie Pierre Abgrall and the UK’s Robyn Davies. So for all you girls wanting to check out your hero’s make sure you don’t miss this one.

The Vans Summer Session Vert comp is quickly gaining momentum and riders confirmed at this stage are Renton Millar, Trevor Ward, Jocke Olsson, Terence Bougdour, Jean Postec, Juergen Horrwarth, Jussi Korhonen, Mattias Nylen, Dave Allen, Pete King, Bob Joosten, Andy Scott and Nicky Cornell to name a few, with more expected. The Freerange Newquay Street Pro, to be held at Newquay’s Wooden Waves is also looking good with first prize of a trip to Sri Lanka for two and cash down the ranks. Elsewhere the Eastpak miniramp will be open to the public except during demos from Eastpak and Vans BMX’ers and Skaters. There will also be BMX Vert demos from confirmed riders Jon Taylor, and Baz Keep from Vans and Stefan ‘OBG’ Geisler and Pete Marcelle of Eastpak.

The biggest news for 2005 is the absolute confirmation of The Nokia Unleashed Music Festival. James Blunt and Razorlight headline the two night festival with the complete line up as follows:

Friday 5 th August

Saturday 6 th August

Razorlight / Rooster / Dogs / Easy Kill / Envy & Other Sins

Back to the beach and if the action sports aren’t your thing then you can go and check out the Nuts Boardmasters Babes Bikini Contest, featuring the UK’s hottest girls in bikini’s. Or go and watch the World Beach Premiere of the acclaimed surf movie “Riding Giants” featuring surfers like Greg Noll and Laird Hamilton, which takes place at 6.30 pm on Thursday 4 th August. Otherwise just relax at the Foster’s Beach Bar and Barbie, where DJ’s will be playing tunes to suit the mood as it changes throughout the day, Grab a couple of pints and a burger at the Foster’s Barbie, maybe check out the action on the Nokia Big Screens and generally take in the vibe. What better place to have a drink, in Newquay, than on the beach. The Foster's Beach Bar will then pave the way to the legendary Rip Curl Boardmasters parties that take place each night at the Foster's Official club nights in Newquay. See you there!
