Stand up paddle surfing

Hello everyone,

A plea for help here ! I am getting seriously into and up paddle surfing. It looks perfect for the UK and I have had a go at it. How many others are there out there who SUP ? and are there any good web links out there ?

So far I have found http://www.supuk.org ,http://www.air-head.com/blog/ and http://www.bloggsd.com/live_surf_travel_blog/ which has some stuff one. Is there anymore stuff out there ?

Kind of! I've scaled up the Mctavish razer outline to about 11 1/2 ft. Gonna stick with the rocker in the blank, keep the rail bands as full as possible but my only issue is the blank ive got wasn't originally meant to be a paddle board but is in fact 2 other blanks scarfed together, it was a homeblown special at the time of purchase. The problem is it is only 3 3/4 inches thick which for a learner ain't thick enough so im going to scarf on a 25mm sheet of core cell foam onto the deck which shouldn't be a problem just a shaping challenge and a half.

Just noticed i missed the mid section width off^^^ i'm sure its around the 30'' mark of the top of my head.

Any strength issues with that blank?

Thats going to be an interesting board Kitey !

It is fun getting it to the beach, but I have windsurfed for years and to be honest its no worse than that. I was taught the correct way to carry it in low winds and to be honest its pretty easy, its just not so fun when there is a blow !

Glad you have found us at standuppaddlesurf.co.uk. We just thought we'd mention the Stand Up Paddle Surfing competition that is all set up for the end of September.

It's been set up with the help of Starboard, Errant Surf Travel, Extreme Academy and we at the website are dealing with the admin side of things.

We also have sponsorship from Fat Face, Go Fast Sports, Grass Hopper Porridge, Reef and Pro Sport Sunscreen.

It's free to pre enter and if you leave it until the day it's a tenner to enter.
All entrants get a free bag full of kit and there will be Starboard SUP boards to try out for free. There will be a surf and distance paddle event. Places are limited and we are already over half full.

i would love to give it ago, it looks like so much fun. i know a guy down here whos giving it ago and i might be able to have a go on his board sum time. have any of you seen the picture of laird riding chopes on a stand up paddle board i think.(not to sure if its chopes, but it looks like it)

I have been SUP'n for about 6 months now, and I love it. I go out at least 3 times a week, and want to do more. My board is 11'6" x 29" x 47/8" and is Epoxy. It is pretty light, considering it's size, and I have gotten used to carrying it to and from the Beach. There are 3 other SUP'rs in my area, 1 of them I hit the H2O with regularly. It is expensive to go out and buy a dedicated SUP board. But if you want to try this Sport out on the cheap, get a Windsurf board, and any type of long paddle, and try it out. I started out on a 11'9" Windsurfer, and it was pretty fun. They are not as stable as a dedicated board, but you'll know if you like it or not, without a huge cash investment. The Windsurfer I used was given to me by someone cleaning out thier property.

SUP looks like so much fricken fun. Perfect for those chill days. I have never tried it maybe one day I will shape me one.

I have sooo much fun when I am out on mine. I was just out today, and did a 6 mile run with a friend. No waves at all today, so it was just fo r the cruise. Normaly we see a lot of Marine Life out there, but today there wasn't much. I was following a Sting-ray on Sat. , and then it heard me take a stroke, and shot off like a rocket. And if you live somewhere that get's realy crowded, you can just paddle on down around the next cove/bend/ area and have it all to yourself. I have also lost 10lbs of belly since I started to do this. It is GREAT exercise. And it realy helps with my balance for Surfing. I have nothing at all bad to say about this sport, except that the iinevitable over population of this Sport is bound to happen it is soo much fun.

I am loving stand up paddle surfing at the moment, here are some pictures of me enjoying my Jimmy Lewis 11ft SUB. Its a great board, but I have just been out on a C4 Waterman 10ft 6 SUB and that really rocks in waves. Bring on the winter swells !
