New winter wetsuit

Finally binning my old Alder suit.

Can anyone recommend a snug winter suit?

If you can afford it, get an excel wetsuit cos they're the best on the market, but if not go for something like a billabong solution gold.

Even the coldest months? And are you in the UK?

Just curious because I might end up buying a winter suit and just wanted to know if it was warm enough in the coldest months!

its fine with boots and gloves in the coldest months and a hood if u don't like brain frezzes

How far into the winter can you go with a 3-2mm suit with gloves, boots and hood? Obviously everyone is different but is that unheard of or are some people ok with that?

some people do it but i would say get yourself a 5 4 3

You would'nt really get past November because December January and February get very cold, so you really need a 5-4 with boots and gloes and sometimes a hood.

Fair enough. I guess I'll just go as far into winter as I can with my current suit and buy a new one if necessary.

well i was in my trusty 3/2mm wetsuit until november without any gloves hoods etc, although i think i may have had some 3mm socks and fins on.

i have to say, when i got in the water my head felt like a bloody ice block, a few big waves sorted that out :wink:

Another thing. I bought some boots the other day ... Excel 3mm ones. Are these going to be ok for winter or should I have got 5mm ones?

The guy in the shop said 5mm makes it hard to feel your board etc. I thought I can make do without boots in the summer so 3mm should be fine in the winter. Not sure now though :S

i live on an island in the north west of scotland & the kit that keeps me warm thru the winter that i recommend is...

O' Neill Psycho 2 winter wetsuit 5/4mm, i got the 2006 version which is now cheaper as there's a 2007 version out.
The boots i have are O'Neill Mutant boots - £34.99, so warm & comfy, almost feel like a pair of trainers.
O'Neill Lobster claw gloves, also very good.
The hood i have is an Alder Plasma Storm hood, serves its purpose very well although so far this year i've only worn it once!
I wear a rash vest underneath the suit too, not necessary but added insulation which helps with water rushes.

All that will guarantee you warmth, and definitely the boots are extremely impressive!

The boots are 6/5/4mm, i was wanting the o'neill superfreak boots but they were out of stock everywhere so i got the mutant ones instead & they're class. Bought from bournemouth surfing but u can get them in loads of shops.
Gloves are 5mm. Got them from transsurf.co.uk

I heard it was sh*t cos the parts for the battery are too expensive so they are not going to release it now.

Hello Ali mac - I'm after some new boots and they sound pretty good, do you still get much feel of the board through them or are the soles quite thick?

Also speaking of rip curl suits my f bomb is coming apart on the liquid seam stuff, had it about a year, does anyone know how to get in touch with rip curl about this cos I can't see anything on their site for customer service etc.

I sent ripcurl an email about if the H-bomb was a go.. and they said not for another year..
and I would suggest emailing this person coldkook:

that is someone from customer service so it won't be like emailing some random person there.
Other than the wetsuit coming apart on the liquid tape seam... how do you like it?? Is it warm and fairly water proof? That neck sealing demonstration I saw on the site looks amazing.. I am considering it because it really looks like a nice suit.. and I am sure the seam is a fluke because they make some seriously nice stuff in my experience.
