What can I wear under wetsuit to stop water when duckdiving?

I have a size medium wetsuit which seems to keep me warm enough except whenever I duck dive water just shoots down the neck, I surf in SoCal so its not exactly warm water as its getting colder this time of year, I'm sure I wouldn't fit into a size small and other than the neck the suit (which is almost brand new) fits great, I'm wondering is there something I can wear under or on around the neck to stop water from coming down my neck.. also the water shooting down it also sometimes makes the back unzip, anyone else have this problem?

maybe a 0.5 or 1.0 mm fleece lined rash gaurd

don't have zip opening problems at all - have never experienced that before.
A rash vest can help water rushes, won't stop them coming in but will help make it feel less cold & give a bit of tighter insulation round your body.

It sounds like the design of the wetsuite is the issue. I have bat wings in all of my suites they ares built into the suites and pulls over the head forming a pocket for the water to be caught in. When water flushes in it gets caught in the bat wing and never touches your back. Sounds like you need to pay a bit more and get a better quality suite.

To stop your zip going down put the velcro bit under the zip.

In other words when you put the zip fully closed and you have the pull chord held above your head, close over the velcro tab, then release the chord.

This will stop the zip wording down during your session.

It might make you a tad bit hot. But it might be worth a shot.

I like to wear a rash guard with an attached hoodie for duck diving.. then once I am in the lineup I take the hood off.

I don't get warm from it.. but then again the water I surf in is closer to 46-52 degrees lol.

Thanks, real pol yeah that makes sense I guess I never thought about that before. I think I'll look into a rash guard, I'm from nor cal actually but have never surfed there, I guess I'm too afraid of the sharks, maybe I'll give it a try though and get one of those hoody things.
