Yep agree skating is good. Not just long board tho, I got the hang of floaters by skating normal short board bench sliding. Exactly the same movement and feeling. Bassically keep fit so when you do get to the beach you can stay out longer. And watch loads of surf vids, then you'll know what to try next .

Yeah it was wierd as I surfed and I skated but had not done any floaters before and I had slid(?) benches. One night I dreamt about doing floaters and the feeling was just like bench sliding so next surf sesh I tried em and they were easy!

Where abouts are you? I'm in Leamington Spa - officially the farthest point from any coast in the UK!

Indo boards may help balance, swimming will train muscles, popping up in your bedroom may help when you get to the coast. BUT - if you're anything like me, you want a way of practising that is FUN!!

Here's my answer - if you can manage it - go Wakeboarding. I know it's expensive, but there are plenty of lakes where you can try it. I tried it for the first time on holiday 2 weeks ago and whilst it's not exactly the same as surfing, it lets you practise carving turns etc and it is loads of FUN!!

Either that or Snowboarding at the Snowdome in Tamworth or Xscape in Milton Keynes!!

hello sinista. im from leicester. i think indo boardings wicked fun, im addicted! im learning to crossetp on mine. and teaching my friends. i kept it in the air, with out touching the ground for over 4 mins today, i could have gone longer but my friends needed to go home. i do go snowboard at tamwoth, but i can only afford to go every other weekend, but when i do its great! i havent thought about wakeboarding before, but it does look good. i may have to go look into that.

modified skateboards work awesome, Im not going to say my idea though, but it lets you do cutbacks, snap turns, anything you could do on a normal shortboard, just on a hill, its almost exactly the same as riding an old school fish. Its just that fun, anyone know what I did?

sure, I was just seing if anyone would guess. I took off my front trucks and added a swivel wheel, like on a grocrey cart. But to really make it good, get some like 9 inch longboard low trucks, and cutouts so they don't scrape the board, on a nice flexy board either a thinner wood or fiberglass. Use like a two inch tall wheel, and if you can/want replace teh plastic wheel it comes with it with either another skateboard wheel, or just leave the plastic one on. Then get a peice of flattened like 12 or 8 guage wire, like the thickness of about a standard 3 inch building nail, and you attach that on one end of the wheel, thread it through the gap between the wheel and board, and tehn attach it again to the front, this prevents sliding out really terribly, but it still slides some. If you don't like the slide as much, then just add a smaller trailer wheel about two inches from your back trucks but make sure it touches the ground, and you don't have to mess with it at all, but doing this makes the board seem floatier and snappier, kinda like a snowboard, but yea. IF anyone tries this, and has any comments on how you think on improving it, TELL ME! im trying to see how good I can get this, then mabie sell the idea to some skate company or somting, but saying this I bet someone else will do it first now...

moving the front tucks back to touching the back ones is a big improvement... and keep the swivel wheel in the front... works great...
