What a flat spell looks like on the charts....

For all those that ask how to read the charts, this is a textbook flat spell...

Scotland might get a small wave later in the week, the east coast just about possibly (but we all know Im crap at the east coast...) but for almost everywhere.... FLAT.

C'mon hurricane season, get blowing.

Um.... not looking good for that week either.

Admittedly you never can tell that far in advance, but that looks like a pretty stationary high pressure. No sign of it going anywhere as far as the charts will go. This flat flat flat spell might well last for quite a while

Weekend fun too by the looks. Got to love those Atlantic Highs, set to stay for a while too, bound to be wrong now i've said that, but a slow start to the SW hurricane season.

bank holiday monday there were flat spells at croyde but it also threw up some decent sized waves

Bobble lines? Stop dazzling me with your technical jargon!

Blue lines are a cold front, red lines are a warm front. Blue lines are usually (but not always) associated with rain.

There's more to it than that, but thats where it turns into weather forecasting rather than surf forecasting.

I've been checking all the forecasts I can (BBC, MagicSeaweed and SurfCore). MSW has the longest-range pressure charts. If they're anything to go by (probably not... can't trust any forecast more than a few days, I guess), it looks like the high-pressure spot is starting to move away on Monday: http://magicseaweed.com/UK-Ireland-MSW-Surf-Charts/1/pressure/in/.

Well, nothing we can do about it, so maybe it's just a great time to enjoy the great weather, cook a few barbeques and get some chores done and out of the way (more time to head out when the swells come back).

This site goes the furthest foward that I know of (almost into the realms of fantasy, but this is a pretty easy one to pridict) and this is what it looks like NEXT thursday...

BUT, it is beginning to finally break down at last

So... maybe some swell for the weekend of the 8th.... please....
