a question for women who travel...

I want to take my small hair straighteners and curlers with me when I go to hawaii. Will they work with an adaptor or will they be totally the wrong voltage and blow up/ blow other stuff up?

I know my travel straighteners say they work in the USA, (although they don't work very well as they just don't get very hot, but they're better than nothing) but I'm not sure about my curlers... i think they probably wont be compatable????????

Should I take them and see or would it be better to buy an american version when I get out there? Anyone know how much they cost over there?

Isnt the idea of the adapter that you can take your stuff abroad and use it? You should be fine with it, Ive never heard anything to the contrary.

From what I can find on the net Hawaii has uses 125v for its domestic supply, so its unlikely to cause your curlers any damage, it may not have enough juice to heat em up much.

In the USA the normal plug sockets are 110 volts compared to the UK 230 volts.

You need to make sure your hair thingies can run on 110 volts, most do but some require a switch to be moved.

If you plug in a device that only runs on 230volts into a 110 volt socket it will only become half as hot.

I don´t mean to be rude, but surely taking curlers and straighteners (esp. both!) is just unnecessary bulk? I mean I am backpacking now and really have taken the bare essentials and my bag seems pretty darn heavy!

I guess I have taken a tent which I guess you won´t be.

they're both quite small. i know i don't REALLY need them, and my hair is naturally curly, so I could just leave it, but it's nice to get it looking really nice and not so frizzy, and feel relatively normal rather than having permanent surf hair!

i used to try using my professional straighteners to create curls, but the travel one I'm gonna take is short and wide and doesn't work in the same way.

I'm now thinking that if my curlers don't heat up as much, there's no point in taking them cuz they wont make a big difference to what my hair looks like unless they're ultra hot.

I'll probably take my travel straighteners (they're only like 10cm by 5cm and about 1 or 2cms thick!) and then buy a cheap curler once I get there. Will come in handy for when I go back

I've never been to the states but have never had any problems with hair straightners in other countries, and i totally understand you taking them, even when back packing there are occasions when you want to look nice!

Unless your straighteners have a switch to turn them into 110v, dont bother bringing them..........they wont work in the states

On my Brasil trip, they dont have standard electricity.........some places its 110v and other places it's 240v

So I had to buy a 110v hair shaver as well as having my UK 240v shaver.

But even in hotel rooms there was 110v in one socket and 240 in another (sometimes they'd have 240 in the bathroom socket)..........have you ever plugged a 110v hair shaver into a 240v socket and switched it on???

I used to have a portable curling iron that ran on a butane cartridge -- no need for an outlet! (Now I just have perpetual surf-hair and don't even take a hairbrush when I go on vacation...)

Is there a web site for your straighteners and curlers? As far as your curlers go and not being compatible with our voltage. Don't bring them if they are not. You will more than likely burn them up.
