Wetsuit Help!

Postby keandre36 » Wed Sep 15, 2004 9:46 am

Hey y'all...i'm planning to buy a wetsuit for the first time for the upcoming winter season...i think the water temp. here isn't so bad, a couple of websites i checked out said it might be about 55-60 in december/january...so i'm wondering what would be my best option...full or spring suit? and what does all these numbers mean, like 3/2 or 4/3, etc...and what would be the best fit for the temp water that i'll be surfing in? Thanks for everyone's input.

P.S. First time surfer (i picked it up this summer) and usually go to Venice Beach...for all those in the area, how cold is the water during winter? Thanks again!

wow, 55-60 in the winter, your lucky. the numbers, 4/3 3/2 etc are the thickness of the suit in millimeters. for that temperature water, a really good 3/2 full suit would be ok, prob with boots. i get cold easily though, so i would probably wear a 4/3 so that i could stay in the water longer without getting cold. good luck.

Where are you living???

I'm from Ireland (surprise surprise!) and I wore a 4/3 with vest & boots all last winter & spring. Usually you would wear 5/4/3 or 6/4/3 here in winter though.

April - Oct no vest or boots and typically a 4/3.

i live in boston massachusetts in the U.S. in the winter here, the water can go into the 20's. im still a beginner surfer, i don't surf through the winter as some here do - but i definately give them props for being able to surf when it is that cold. my thickest suit is a 4/3 as well, and i will surf in that prob until november-ish.

I am fortunate enough to live in Sunny Southern California here in the states...so i guess i am lucky that the water doesn't get that cold here...i guess i should be okay with a 3/2 or 4/3 then, huh? I'm kinda scared of the cold so i think i'll try to find the warmest suit that i can get...by the way, do u think i can get a 4/3 under $100? Brand doesn't matter so much as the quality of the suit...thanks guys!
